Overview:

Blue Tees Golf asked us to design a GPS handheld device that stayed true to the established VBL and celebrated the new Blue Tees GAME app that was being launched congruently with the new product line.

I co-designed this with Alex Cordeiro based on Blue Tees’ initial request of a “pill-shaped handheld device.”

Approachability

The brand is focused on designing for all the golfers who aren’t pro. We sought to incorporate the brand’s approachability by giving an overall softness to the form and details.

Ringer arms you with information that helps you make decisions around what club to swing with, what technique to use, etc.

 

Celebrating the UI

Just a press of the button opens up a world of courses for you to play at. We celebrated the crossed tees GPS button by placing it front and center.

 

Secure Mounting

A low profile magnet is blended into the back of the device for mounting onto a golf cart strut.

 

Offered in charcoal and navy color options

 

Protecting the Goods

The paper pulp tray protects the product during shipping and also serves as an elevated way to contain and present both the charging cable and the product. The tray can also be recycled or composted afterwards.

Extracting Blue Tees Golf’s VBL

Analyzing the current product line led to a design direction of a pill form, a ribbed, grip / texture, and a crossed tees logomark button.

 

Finding the right form

We designed and prototyped a collection of varying forms to test and gather user insight. A slim and slightly stretched pill felt and looked the best.
